Vaccinations

Vaccinations and parasite prevention are essential to your pet’s long-term health, but they’re never one-size-fits-all. At Edgeworth Vet, we tailor vet vaccinations to suit each pet’s age, lifestyle, and health risks.

From first puppy or kitten shots to three-year protocols and optional titre testing, we follow the latest veterinary guidelines. Our parasite treatment plans also keep your pets safe from heartworm, fleas, ticks, and worms year-round, while protecting your family from the risks these parasites can carry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer care for my pet at every stage of life?

Absolutely, we provide comprehensive care for your pet at every life stage. That means everything from initial puppy and kitten health checks and vaccinations, through routine adult wellness visits and dental care, to attentive senior check-ups. Our team guides you through each milestone, such as the right time for speying and other preventative health steps, to keep your pet happy and healthy, and when the time comes, we’re here with compassionate end-of-life care and support. As a locally owned, independent vet clinic near Glendale, we serve pet families across the Newcastle area and pride ourselves on being there for your pet’s whole journey.

Should I get my pet desexed, and do you offer that surgery?

Yes, we highly recommend desexing (spaying/neutering) for most pets, and our clinic provides this surgery on-site. Typically, pets are desexed when they’re a few months old – often around five to six months – but our vets will advise you on the best timing based on your pet’s breed and health. Our experienced surgical team performs desexing procedures with great care, using safe anesthesia and monitoring to ensure your pet’s comfort. Desexing not only prevents unwanted litters but can also lead to a healthier, calmer pet by reducing the risk of certain diseases and undesirable behaviors.

Do you offer pet dental care, and is it really necessary?

Certainly, we offer comprehensive pet dental care – including dental check-ups, professional teeth cleaning, and treatment for any dental issues. Just like in humans, good dental care is very important for pets: keeping your pet’s teeth and gums healthy can prevent pain, infections, and other health problems. During regular check-ups, our vets will examine your pet’s mouth and let you know if a professional dental cleaning is needed. Our Edgeworth vet clinic has advanced dental equipment (like digital dental X-rays) to safely clean and treat your pet’s teeth, helping keep their breath fresh and their overall health on track.

If my pet is sick or injured, can your clinic handle diagnostics and surgery?

Definitely. Our veterinary hospital is fully equipped to diagnose and treat your pet if they get sick or hurt. We have a modern in-house lab for blood tests and a digital X-ray suite, so we can quickly find out what’s wrong and begin treatment right away. If surgery is needed, we provide a full range of procedures on-site at our Edgeworth vet clinic, from routine lump removals and desexing to complex orthopedic surgeries. Your pet will be in experienced hands, with our team closely monitoring them and keeping them comfortable through any procedure.

Do you treat birds, reptiles, or other exotic pets?

Yes! Our vets have a special interest and experience in treating exotic pets, including birds, reptiles (such as snakes and lizards), rabbits, guinea pigs, and rodents. We understand these pets have unique needs, so we offer tailored advice on their diet, habitat, and medical care to help them thrive. Our clinic even has specialized equipment to accommodate smaller or more unusual pets and help them feel secure during visits. We’re proud to provide exotic pet care to Newcastle-area pet owners, since not every vet is equipped to care for these species.

How will you help me when it’s time to say goodbye to my pet?

We know how heartbreaking it is to say goodbye to a beloved companion, and we’re here to support you with compassion and care. Our vets will gently guide you through end-of-life decisions and can provide humane pet euthanasia services when needed, either at our clinic or in the comfort of your home (available in the Newcastle area). We also partner with a local pet crematorium to help you arrange respectful aftercare when you’re ready. Throughout the process, you can count on our team to be there for you every step of the way, offering empathy, support, and gentle care as you face this difficult time.

Do I need to bathe my dog before surgery?

While it’s not essential, bathing your dog the day before their procedure can be really helpful, as long as they don’t have any open wounds or skin conditions that make bathing unsuitable. A clean coat can reduce the time needed for surgical preparation, which means a shorter anaesthetic. And shorter anaesthetic times are always better for your dog’s safety and recovery. If you can do it, it’s a small step that can make a positive difference.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Dr Nicole and the rest of the team for fitting in our dog for a torn dew claw this morning on such short notice. Ashlee on the phone was so lovely and quick to make the appointment for me. Our girl was treated with such care and we are very grateful 💕

Best vets I’ve ever been to with rabbits! Vet was so kind, gentle & knowledgeable. She not only looked after the unwell bunny, but also took our other bunnies at home into consideration. All staff were so helpful. The follow up phone call & sympathy card were so appreciated & such a beautiful touch. Will never take our pets anywhere else after such an amazing experience! 🩷

I was referred to Edgeworth vets as they have experience with bunnies and took my rabbit Ross there, he was old and not able to be saved so I had make the hard decision to have him put to sleep. The staff there were so kind and the vet I saw Kimberly was amazing. She was very kind and supportive and so gentle with Ross. I was able to stay with him while he passed and she talked me through everything. I’m so grateful to them that they helped Ross pass in a peaceful manner and cannot recommend them highly enough.

Booked it our new kitten for his first vet visit after we purchased him. The staff was so helpful and nice, plus they help us out after he did not enjoy the car trip very much. But they made him feel welcome and helped me out. The vet we sure was so helpful and answered all our questions. They even gave us a little info pack about our kitten etc. They were recommended to us by a good friend and I would 100% recommend them to anyone that has a pet that needs a caring vet.

These guys truly care. I couldn’t get my rabbit into his usual vet, however, they took him. Unfortunately it was the end of the journey for Boris and they were helpful, compassionate and loving the whole way. I even got a sympathy card 2 weeks later. Thank you for your love and care.

Fantastic vets, we have been bringing our chickens here for 3 years now and have no complaints. Recently moved our cats to Edgeworth as well. All vets we have seen here have been great as well as the vet nurses. The receptionists are very helpful, its a releif to walk in the door and know that our pets are going to be well looked after.

Thank you for the beautiful card and condolences to our family after losing a battle with Jet. She tried so hard and fought like a little champion that she was. Thank you for your ongoing support, care, advice, and strength you showed to us, so that we could be strong. Unfortunately, little Jet succumbed to her many health issues but is now pain free. We will be under Edgeworth Animal Hospital for all of feathered family members. I couldn’t have asked for more

I had an emergency with my cat, and came without an appointment. I was seen straight away. Every single interaction I had with the lovely people at this vet was amazing. They are so kind and go 110% for your fur baby. They went above and beyond and made this cat dad feel like everything was going to be ok. I cannot thank them enough.
